Anna Hackett and Time Thief!

Today we are chatting to Australian author Anna Hackett about Time! The too precious commodity, everyone laments the lack of! Over to Anna.....

Time is Precious

Like many, I’m a wife, mother of a toddler, writer, reader, paranormal and sci-fi fan, cook, laundry lady, cleaner, amazing singer of Elmo songs…the list goes on! My time is precious. There are never enough hours in the day and far too often, when I watch my little boy sleeping, I wish I could have spent more time with him or made him smile more during the day.

I’m also someone who loves a great story – whether I’m reading it, writing it or watching it on the television. Unfortunately the time I have to read isn’t quite as much as it used to be. I might wish I had the ability to stop time (like Bay in Time Thief) but instead I found another solution – short stories.

For me, short stories are like that first nip of a strong drink. A quick, intense, one-two punch to the system. I can fit them into an evening of reading , sometimes during a rare bubble bath or when my little man is napping.

Better still, I love writing them. Distilling a story down to the essentials – action, adventure, sexy characters and an emotion-packed happily ever after. Some people say short stories don’t work, that they’re too short, that the story isn’t long enough and leaves you wanting more.  Well, I believe a good story is never long enough, whatever its length.
