This week our Intro on Author: Dani Collins. She has a new book out, Marrying the Enemy. And there's a giveaway of a signed paperback copy open international.
Award-winning and USA Today Bestselling author Dani Collins thrives on giving readers emotional, compelling, heart-soaring romance with laughter and heat thrown in, just like real life. While she is best known for writing contemporary romance for Harlequin Presents and Tule Publishing, she also writes historical and erotic romance. When she’s not writing—just kidding, she’s always writing. Dani lives in Southern BC, Canada with her high school sweetheart husband.

- Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?
Sure! It really depends on what you want to write, though. Stories that are more plot driven, like mystery, don’t rely on the same drama and emotional roller coaster that romance does so probably better to focus there.
- What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?
Oh, fun question! I belong to a forum with most of the other Harlequin Presents authors. A lot of it is social, but we also talk about the industry so I think they mostly help me be a better business person.
In terms of writing, I mostly rely on my editor for feedback rather that showing my work to other writers. That’s my preference, though. Many authors have close friends who are critique partners. That’s just not something that works for me.
- If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
Try self-publishing sooner! Lol.
- How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
I think I felt validated and that allowed me to enjoy it more. Before that, I had a lot of rejection so I thought I was doing it ‘wrong.’ I finally began to trust my process.
- Tell us about your book...
Marrying the Enemy is pretty much what it says on the tin. Dom and Eve are rivals and, after an intimate moment goes awry, sworn
enemies. They each think the other is out to get them. But when they’re stranded on an island, they get to know each other (very intimately) and decide to end the family feud with a marriage of convenience. Think Romeo and Juliet but sexier and ends happily.

DeleteI enjoyed this interview with author Dani Collins.
ReplyDeleteI like how she pointed out that different genres are focused on different things.
Mysteries, crime novels and thrillers are often like a puzzle to solve. They are more rational and less emotional.
Romance books are clearly more emotional.
Sworn enemies sounds like a fun book!
