What are a few things we would find on your desk?

I’m notoriously messy. A collector of knick-knacks, with hoarding tendencies. Even after I’ve refurbished my office and bought a nice new desk, I currently have three mugs full of novelty pens and a stash of pretty notebooks. Oh, and I have a tin of emergency google eyes which Annie O’Neil sent me!
What motivates you to write?

I‘ve always loved writing but I only really started to write seriously after my mum passed away eight years ago. She was only fifty-three and it really struck me how short life can be. I was lost when she died and writing gave me something other than my grief to focus on. I decided I wanted to do something I really loved and try to make a success of it. Now I get antsy if I’m not working on a story because it’s become such a huge part of who I am.
Share something about yourself no one else knows?
I took a photography class when I was eighteen and considered making a career of it. I gave up the idea because I couldn’t load the 35mm film into the camera properly!

What was your favorite scene to write?

My favourite scene is where Violet is waiting for Nate to pick her up from the house for their non-date. There’s just something so sweet and innocent about how nervous they are to be alone together which really gives you a glimpse of how intense their teenage feelings for one another had been.

Tell us about your book…

The Doctor’s Forbidden Fling, is about the reunion between Lady Violet Dempsey, heiress to the Strachmore estate, and Nate Taylor, the son of the housekeeper. After the death of her mother, and the strict society rules her father had imposed on her, Violet had fled the aristocratic world and gone to London to train as a nurse leaving everything behind. Including Nate.

She returns to Strachmore when her father has a heart attack, only to find Nate’s now a respected cardiologist with her stubborn father as his patient. It also becomes apparent that her father has been struggling with debt and he’s in serious financial trouble. Nate knows she has no-one else to turn to so agrees to help her get the Earl back on his feet. The sooner they do that, the sooner they can all return to their normal lives.
It’s not long before those old feelings reignite and passion takes hold of them but they’re both so scarred by the past they can’t see a future together. Fate steps in to make sure they will always stay connected…

Available 1st June (which is also my 20th wedding anniversary!)

  1. Hi Nas and Karin - I was sort of in the throws of starting to blog - when my mother became terminally ill - which lasted for over 5 years ... but having the blog and writing has really opened my world up. I can quite understand that writing helped with solace and place of comfort to come to as you adjusted to life without your mother - she was so young, so sad - I feel for you.

Good luck with your books ... I'm sure people with love that style of romance ... cheers to you both -Hilary

  3. I guess when you get used to writing novels all the time, you start to feel strange when you aren't writing one yourself. I really like the sound of a messy desk that works for her too.

    1. I always think I'll enjoy the break in between books but my brain never stops! I've been told a messy desk is the sign of a creative mind. Well, that's my excuse. :D

  4. This book sounds really good! I was touched to read of Karin's mother's early death and how it motivated her to write. Cmlk79@yahoo.com is my email.

    1. Thank you, Christine. My mum was always supportive so she'd have been glad I stuck at it. It's just a shame she never got to see me in print.

  6. My mom passed away 5 years ago, that not an easy thing to go through. I think if I had a bigger desk I would have all sorts of stuff on it. But I use the kitchen table with my laptop on it. I do have a desk organizer which lets me put more stuff out but too much stuff would be distracting. That 35mm film was a pain to get in the cameras. lol miztik_rose@yahoo.com

    1. It's something you never really get over, isn't it?
I got the bigger desk thinking it would give me more room but I've just accumulated more clutter!
And thank goodness someone else knows what 35mm film was lol

  12. If a messy desk is a sign of a creative mind, I must reeeeeeeally be creative! Honest, I do neaten things fairly often, but the notebooks, folders, books and pens have a way of multiplying. It's a scientific phenomenon. :)

My mom died more than twenty years ago, and I regret that my book wasn't published before she died, so I understand how you feel, Karin. Moms are very often the biggest fans of our writing.

Your new book sounds terrific. Here's wishing you much success with it. My email address is af4fo@aol.com

    2. I'm using that as my excuse anyway! I've bought folders to keep everything organised but the notes haven't made it that far...

So sorry to hear about your mum too. it's hard not being able to share the success but I like to think maybe they had a hand in moving things along :)

Many thanks for stopping by xx

  13. Wonderful to meet Karin. I like to have special things near me when I write, so I can understand having a little clutter while writing. Loading film can be tricky and it was great that you shared this bit of yourself with us. Wishing Karin all the best! :)

    1. I'm very sentimental and have souvenirs of loved ones and special times all around me. It makes the writing area 'homely', don't you think? :D

I should've stuck it out until the digital age in photography I guess!

      Many thanks,
      Karin x
