Today we are here to celebrate the release of Helen Lacey's MADE FOR MARRIAGE!
Helen promised her 'Call Story' when she visited me earlier, so friends, here it is!
My call story was 20 plus years in the making. I knew I wanted to write romances when I was twelve years old and read my first Mills & Boon. When I was nineteen I submitted my first manuscript to London. Six months later I received a rejection. Eighteen rejections later I got the call.
But things really changed for me about four years ago. I left my job and my husband and I had a sea/tree change. Up until that time I’d only been able to devote an hour or so a day to my writing – but with the sea change came the opportunity to write full time. I’d decided a few years earlier that Harlequin Special Edition was the line I wanted to write for, as they were my favourite books to read. I loved the home and hearth, family and community themes of these books. I also started seriously entering contests. In January 2009 I won an RWA chapter contest and the final judge was the Special Edition editor I’d been targeting. She asked for the full manuscript.
Around that time I also decided to invest in working with a freelance editor. She had been an ex Harlequin editor and her advice was invaluable. In early 2010 I received an encouraging email from Harlequin Special Edition and was asked to do some revisions on my book. I did them and sent them off and not long after I signed with my agent, Scott Eagan. On November the 23rd 2010 my agent called to say Special Edition wanted to buy my book! Twenty three years after that very first submission. So, I did have a long apprenticeship – but it was worth it.
Made For Marriage hit the shelves in January 2012 and I have copies to give way on my blog tour. And as a grand prize for a follower or as Nas says stalker of the blog tour, I’m also giving away a $50.00 Amazon Voucher and for those who like a little bling, a fabulous Pandora silver bracelet!
Equestrian Callie Jones was used to difficult parents at her riding school. But Noah Preston took the cake.
How dare he question her teaching abilities, after his headstrong daughter paid no heed to rules—her teacher's or her father's?
Single dad Noah was ready to apologize for overreacting. But he wasn't sorry for the way the stunning American riding instructor made him feel. And he soon learned that there was more to Callie than her smarts, sass and fire: a shattered heart that threatened to splinter even further. Could he make her see that he—and his family—were for keeps?

Thanks for having Helen as your special guest, RR! Another success for the lovely Nas too :)
Congrats! Great to read your call story, I've been trying for some years too - but last year I found myself in similar circumstances to you and so am risking full time writing... fingers crossed I don't cave in and have to go back to working and fitting in the writing again! I had to give up my horses when my husband went - so added incentive to getting published will be being able to afford them again! Love the sound of your story - good luck with future ones.
