Our Intro on Author this week is on Rania Battany. She has a new book out this month. Fleeting Moments is available to buy now.
Rania Battany lives with her husband and three
children in the beautiful Yarra Ranges, Victoria, Australia. When she isn’t
getting her hands dirty in the garden, frolicking with her chickens or dog, or
chasing after her three young children, she is writing contemporary romance
novels that tug at the heartstrings or curled up with a cup of tea and a book.

What is your writing kryptonite?
Repetition of a character trait. In my first book,
‘This is Kaylah’, everyone breathed deeply, took in a deep breath, and sighed
heavily. In my second book, ‘Fleeting Moments,’ everyone spoke in a particular
tone of voice. I am very thankful that my editors picked these up as it allowed
me to reconsider my characters and how they would behave. When re-editing, I
ensured each character had unique traits, so they didn’t lose their
individuality.
Did you ever consider writing under a
pseudonym?
Yes. I did. I even explored different names I could
use. In the end, I decided to use my birth name for a few reasons: Firstly, Rania
Battany is super unique. I wanted something unique for when a fan looked me
up. I didn’t want anyone coming across multiple authors with the same name.
Secondly, I had built a presence on social media and within my local community
as myself, and I wanted to use that as a leverage point for when I released my
books. The third reason is simply that I had no issue with the people I knew
reading what I was writing.
Do you try more to be original or to
deliver to readers what they want?
I try to be original when writing women’s fiction. My
second book, ‘Fleeting Moments’, is an example of that. I took a risk with
creating a completely different kind of heroine—a heroine that is flawed and
troubled. But it paid off, and the feedback has been amazing.
I write my contemporary romance to market. In these
books, I give readers what they want. My first book, ‘This is Kaylah’ is an
example of that.
Tell us about your book:
Maya is in a difficult part of her life.
She has lost connection with her family and friends, and her boyfriend of six
years has left her for another woman. She reaches rock bottom, unaware that she
is drowning until she meets Sam.
Sam’s attitude to life is infectious. He
is full of zest, honest, and fun loving. Piece by piece, he helps Maya rebuild
her life.
FLEETING MOMENTS is a tender and heart-wrenching
exploration of the difficulty in dealing with grief and loss. This story is a
reminder that, by being brave enough to connect deeply with others, we might
glimpse the light during the darkest times of our lives. It gives hope that we
might learn to live in the light, despite the shadows that remain.
