This week's Favorites, Frustrations & Fabulous with Author Nicole Locke!

Favorites:

Family -  Whom I love to bits. Every one of them.

Music -  Every kind. If writing, I either listen to foreign pop songs (peppy, but can’t understand what they’re singing, so no distractions) or soundtracks. If I’m not writing, it’s a free for all. I love singing (badly) around the house. Luckily, my 8yo daughter has taken up after me, so mostly she sings now and everyone’s ears are saved.

Food - Macaroni and cheese, popcorn, gummy worms. Vats of tea.

Reading – Romances in all genres. Just love reading about Love!

Frustrations:

Family -  When deadlines collide with family events like school functions, etc.

Music -  If it’s too jarring and I’m not in a club, I can’t take it. It’s like extra voices in my head, when I already have voices in my head.

Food -  Anything too heavy for lunch because I’ll go to sleep and not write! Then I get frustrated because why did I eat that pizza?

Reading – Bad sentences, and typos…especially my own!

Fabulous:

Family – Is there a theme here? But when I’m not writing, it’s all about them. I couldn’t do this without their support!

Music –It takes you on journeys just like books!

Food – Really, how could food not be under fabulous? I love cooking, baking, and eating.

Reading – Because when a book is good…well, do I need to say more?

Nicole Locke's new book:

A maiden for the mercenary
Mercenary knight Rhain is living on borrowed time. With a vengeful warlord pursuing him, he has accepted his fate—though first he must get his men to safety.

When he rescues mysterious and deeply scarred Helissent from her attackers, Rhain soon wishes he wasn't marked for death. He can never be the man she deserves—his scandalous lineage alone dictates that—but Rhain can't resist the temptation to show this innocent maiden how beautiful she truly is…
Lovers and Legends A clash of Celtic passions

    1. Thanks Christine! I will definitely be making your raspberry curd ice cream from your blog. That looks delicious.

  4. Fun interview, ladies! it was interesting to note the overlap in the three categories. I guess the things (and people) we love most can be both the sources of great pleasure as well as great aggravation. :)

Good idea about listening to foreign songs while writing. I've never tried that, but I had to stop listening to my favorite music because it's such a distraction. Purely my own fault, though. Even if I'm listening to symphonic music, I have to close my eyes and let it engulf me. (No resistance at all.)

Good luck with your newest book!

    1. Thanks Susan. There are definitely times I have to have absolute silence as well, especially when there are too many voices in my head!

  5. I believe writers fall into two distinct categories: those who write while listening to music and those who don't. I'm curious as to if each group share other characteristics that are as distinct.

    1. I listen to music when in edits or when I can't get motivated. Then there are times, I'll listen to the same song for hours.

  6. Great interview. I laughed about listening to foreign music. I tune into French traditional music and haven't a clue what is being sung. The style of music is relaxing and keeps me in a happy place.

    1. I love that music has the ability to transcend boundaries and borders. Definitely a happy place for me, too!

  7. I'm definitely a fan of the romance novel, but lately I've been reading spy novels and thrillers. Almost anything that has cheese in it, is a friend of mine. I used to sing in bands and choirs, so I definitely love my music in all forms. I find that it frequently relaxes me. Hope you're having an awesome day! Hugs...RO

  8. I love how the favourites and frustrations are within in the exactly the same cateogries! I think our favourite things are what frustrate us most.

    1. Favourites = Frustrations = Favourites = Frustrations! I love writing; I hate writing, etc. :-) Is this true for you, too?

  9. It was interesting to see how those categories changed with each theme (favorites, frustrations).

    1. Thanks Chrys! I honestly couldn't think of anything else. I both love (yummy) and loathe (extra workout) chocolate cake.

  10. I don't like listening to music when I write, either. I need to listen to the voices in my head. Music is too distracting.
