Intro: Kathy Stewart, Mark of the Leopard #Giveaway

This week's Author Intro is on Kathy Stewart and her latest release, Mark of the Leopard.

Who is Kathy Stewart?

I was born in South Africa and now live on the Gold Coast, Australia. I’ve always been passionate about writing and penned my first novel when I was eight. I also loves reading, nature in all its forms, and being in the outdoors, whether its hiking, cycling, playing golf and simply walking along a beach – preferably deserted, so I have plenty of time to hatch another storyline! J

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.

Mark of the Leopard will transport you to a different world, where danger lurks at every turn and it’s never certain whether good will triumph over evil or whether Lucien, who is hiding a tragic secret, will be able to overcome his dark past and find love again.

What was your favorite scene to write?

The opening scene where Sabrina is forced to make a terrible almost impossible decision.

What is your dream cast for your book?

The question conjures up a wonderful fantasy – Mark of the Leopard on the silver screen. Excuse me while I daydream … Because the main characters all have dark hair and eyes, I would probably look at mostly Latino actors. So I would choose Penelope Cruz to play Marikye, and perhaps Ryan Guzman to play Tom. Selena Gomez would be perfect for Esther, because she’s young, sexy and sultry. The most difficult to cast is Lucien Castle. If Antonio Banderas were younger, he would be perfect for the role. If I have to choose someone younger I would go for Rodrigo Santoro. The rest of the cast I’d have to give more thought to, such as who would play the evil Robert Barrington, and other characters like Rykloff Kribel, Beekman, Ware and Rheede?

What are you working on now?

I have a series of contemporary crime fiction ready to go and I’m also working on a contemporary romance called River of Love. It’s set in Africa and some cities in Europe, such as Paris, Rome and Venice. I hope to have it finished by late 2016.

Tell us a little bit about your book...

The novel is set in the early 1700s, a time when the slave trade was rampant and many people were taken from their homelands against their will to work on farms and plantations in far-off countries. It’s against this background that Sabrina Barrington is forced to make a decision no parent should have to.
Heartbroken and bereft, she and her remaining family are shipwrecked off the Cape of Good Hope and presumed drowned. Fourteen years later, her brother, Lucien Castle, is told that a young man claiming to be Sabrina’s son has been seen on the island of Madagascar. If the story is true, it’s imperative to find the youngster and return him to England, otherwise his hated grandfather, Robert Barrington, will usurp his rightful inheritance. Lucien embarks on a voyage to find his nephew, and in the course of his journey faces danger at every turn. He is also hiding a tragic secret, and Marikye, the woman he finds he is falling in love with, has a dark past of her own. Will Lucien find his nephew, and will he and Marikye be able to overcome the hurdles of their past to find love again?

  10. I love reading these "who would star in your movie" answers! When you write children's books, you don't get the fun of casting your books...unless you watch a lot of Disney Channel and are familiar with child actors!

  11. That's so true, Stephanie. Children's books might have cartoon characters as stars and then you'd have to choose who would do the voice-overs. That could be fun! Quite a few people have come up with better suggestions for my cast, like Katherine Zeta-Jones for Marikye. She would be perfect! I hope you have fun choosing who would do your voice-overs.
