1.How did you pick the title for your books?
I start with a
working title but I don’t always get to keep it. The editorial department
chooses the titles but occasionally I’ve been able to use my own or brainstorm
with my editor over them.
2. How did you choose the setting for your books?
Setting can
be a bit like a character in a novel. It influences the story in lots of ways.
I chose London for this novel, as it’s one of my favourite cities. I also
wanted the winter setting for the St Valentine’s Day theme.
3. How did you come up with the
names for your heroes and heroines?
I find the naming of characters really fun.
I trawl through baby name websites and I make a note of any names I like the
sound of when I’m out and about or watching a movie or reading a magazine, etc.
I will file it away for a future novel. Names are so important (to me at least)
as they reflect the nature of the character. A softer sounding name doesn’t
always work for an alpha hero for instance.
4.What makes your
heroes irresistible?
I like my heroes to be realistic, not clichéd. I like
them to be flawed but still be good men with strong convictions and values.
5. Share some random facts about yourself...
I love training my
three poodles to do tricks. They are like a little circus act now.
I am an ambassador for The Australian Childhood Foundation
(along with Chris Hemsworth and Eric Bana). I have a passionate commitment to
help children in need.
6. Your advice to new writers.
Writing is like any other
exercise. It takes time to build the right muscles. The more you practise the
stronger you become. But along with the practice you need good coaching. Read
books on the craft of writing and attend writing classes and workshops.
Tell us about your book...
Dr Bertie Clark has been jilted at
the altar but is too embarrassed to
tell her workmates when she comes back from
her “honeymoon”. But her brand new boss- gorgeously handsome and single- Dr
Matt Bishop is deeply suspicious of her holistic approach to her patients and
threatens to put a stop to her research project. But then Bertie finds out Matt
has his own secret. Can this hippy with her heart in the right place break
through this skeptical scientist’s firewall?
