Let's discuss Favourite Romance Tropes with author Jennifer St George today...
Favourite Romance Tropes
Do
you have a favourite Romance Trope? Cinderella, Marriage of Convenience, Secret Baby,
Amnesia or Lovers Parted Then United? I really like
reading ‘wounded hero’ stories so it’s no surprise my first couple of novels
included characters with very tragic histories.
The Billionaire’s Pursuit of Love
The Billionaire’s Pursuit of Love is my first ‘second chance/lovers united’ story. I loved
writing this story. The premise
is:
When Sarah Walker's beloved wildlife sanctuary is
threatened with closure, she heads for London and goes straight to the top to
find out why. But the man responsible is the one man she's never forgotten, and
the only person who can destroy all her happiness.
Billionaire
CEO Blake Huntington-Fiennes can't believe that the girl he's spent years
searching for has just marched into his boardroom. And this time, he's willing
to resort to any means necessary to keep her. But Sarah has a secret she must
protect at all costs or risk losing something even more precious than the
sanctuary…
Having Sarah and Blake share a brief history
provided so much fertile ground for conflict. But I couldn’t help myself, both
characters have experienced their fair share of misfortune.
Another trope I enjoy is The Marriage of Convenience,
which in contemporary romance can be tricky. I used this story line for the The Convenient Bride and it was so much
fun throwing two such different people together.
I’d love to write an amnesia story but haven’t
been able to develop a credible enough concept yet. I’ve read some really great amnesia stories
so I wouldn’t want to let the trope down with a half-baked idea. I’ll keep
working on this one.
I’m currently plotting out my next book which is
shaping up to be an enemies to lovers story with a little bit of romantic
suspense thrown in. It’s set in a luxury health retreat. The setting is
inspired by a recent visit to a gorgeous health resort in Queensland. During my
stay the whole story played out in my head. Must have been all that relaxing
making my creative juices pump (there were certainly lots of fitness classes
getting my body pumped).
So do you have a favourite story line? I’d love
to hear what your favourite romantic tropes are and why. Leave a comment for a
chance to win an e-copy of The
Billionaire’s Pursuit of Love.
