Who is Lisa Weaver?

I’m a mild-mannered administrative assistant by day, and a hopeless romantic weaving tales of happily-ever-afters with a hint of suspense by night.  I live in Augusta, Maine with the man who is the inspiration behind all my heroes, my husband, Duane.  Our cat, Lexi, graciously shares her home with us.

My infatuation with words began at an early age. Books—from those first fondly remembered Grimm’s Fairy Tales and Nancy Drew Mysteries, to the classics—have touched my life in so many ways.  My passion for the written word sparked the desire to pen stories that would impact lives in the same way others works have enriched mine. That spark ignited the dream that I am now pursuing.

I hope the tales I spin take my readers on extraordinary journeys filled with laughter and love.

Who is your favorite author?

This is such a tough question.  I adore Nora Roberts, of course!  But there are so many other talented authors whose books have made an impact on me…Olivia Gates, Jennifer Hayward, Kat Cantrell, and Helen Bianchin,  just to name a few.   Recently I’ve delved into the works of other Kindle Scout authors, and I’ve discovered some amazing voices!  I’m loving Steve Gannon, Fiona Quinn, and Joseph Souza’s writing styles.

Do you listen to music while you write?

Although I love music, I find I write better either surrounded by silence in my little writing nook at home, or tucked in a corner at our local Barnes & Noble café amidst happy chatter.  The bonus of working at Barnes & Noble is that it gives me an excuse to indulge in one of their decadent desserts.

What do you do to relax?

Bubble baths are the best way to relax, in my humble opinion, especially when they’re complemented by chocolate and a great romance novel.  I also love to unwind with a long hike or a short jog, a scenic cycling trip, or spending time digging in my flower gardens.

Tell us about your book...

Covert protection agent Lauren Reynolds knows, firsthand, that handsome billionaire Rafe Dimitriou is the kind of man who gives love a bad name.  Assigned to guard him without his knowledge, she vows to keep him safe without succumbing to the chemistry sizzling between them.   If Rafe learns the real reason she’s agreed to his marriage ultimatum, both his life and her heart will be in jeopardy.  “The Billionaire’s Bodyguard Bride” follows these two strong-willed characters, both with hidden agendas, as they overcome the personal demons that stand between them and a lifetime of love.  It’s a story of unexpected second chances and a revenge plot gone wrong; of secrets and passion, all laced with a hint of suspense.

While I spent time with Rafe and Lauren, recounting their romance, the other men and women of the Sentinels Agency began clamoring to have their stories told, as well.  I left the Mendacci mystery that plays a small part in this book open-ended, and its threads will be woven throughout the next books in the Secret Sentinels series.

  1. Congrats, Lisa! B&N does have really good desserts in their cafe. I'm particularly fond of their chocolate chunk cookies. :)

    1. I can't think of a better reward for a completed chapter than a B&N dessert.

  3. Sounds like a great story! I think I might be too distracted at B&N to write :)

    1. Thanks, Carol. I, too, can get distracted by all the bright and shiny new books. Being surrounded by so much talent can be inspirational, though. Oh, and the cookies...one must not forget the cookies. :)

  4. Hi, Meradeth,

First, I have to say I LOVE your name and its spelling. So pretty! And, yes, sometimes great plot ideas come from eavesdropping on café conversations. Plus, we're surrounded by books and desserts, so what more could a writer ask for? :)

  5. Thanks, Carol. I thought I'd be distracted writing there, as well, at first. The amazing thing is that the buzz of conversation makes for amazing white noise. Like a lot of writers, I have a day job that keeps me busy until after 5:00, so I had to find a way to keep my husband happy while I snared chunks of writing time. Barnes and Noble was the answer. :) He can check out the books and I can delve into my latest plot line.

  6. I need some background noise to write - music, TV, traffic... anything that helps occupy that bouncy part of my brain!
The story sounds great - and I love when those story nuggets continue from one story to the next :)

    1. Hi, Jemi. Thank you!

Great stories are fueled by that bouncy part of the brain, so it's important to keep it happy. :)

It's so much fun developing those story nuggets into full-blown books. And Lauren's fellow agents at Sentinels were VERY insistent that they have books of their own. Next up is her brother Luke's story, as he protects Rafe's newly discovered sister, Brianna. Sparks fly with these two. :)

    1. Thanks, Kelly. I took three of my favorite plot concepts...billionaire Alpha male, marriage of convenience, and secrets and threw them together along with a sprinkling of suspense.. Tons of fun!

  13. Sounds like an interesting book, combining a lot of the elements I enjoy in a story. Good luck with it!

Not sure I could concentrate enough to write in B&N. I'm too much of a people person. (i.e. "nosy") I used to want complete silence while writing, but now, I sometimes play soft classical music in in the background. Forget anything with lyrics or a fast beat, though... I'd be singing along and/or dancing. Yeah, I'm easily distracted. :)

I like to listen to music when I write but I am not writing a book so I might think differently and I LOVED Nancy Drew books when I was growing up... xox

    1. Thanks, Tracy. I wanted to create a female character who was tough and self-reliant, but also very feminine. There will be more wonderfully strong female characters in the Secret Sentinels series. Lauren's friend and fellow agent Stephanie has an adventure of her own coming up soon.

  17. Lisa, congratulations on your book!
I would love to be able to sit down and write at my local Barnes & Noble, but knowing me, I'd just be up and about looking for books to read!

  18. Thanks, Joylene. I adore the dress, too. And the credit for the masterpiece of a cover goes to the amazing Jimmy Thomas and cover artist Ramona Lockwood. They're simply awesome! Loons...how lovely. And, yes, the lovely birds at my feeder like to 'chat' while they're dining, so I know what you mean. :)

  19. I agree with everyone that it would be hard not to get distracted at Barnes and Noble. I wish I had half of your discipline. Congrats Lisa!
