Some stories never die.  About 8 years ago, I started work on a book that I loved.  I don’t know what I called it back then, but it opened up with Evie Baker, a chef and restaurant owner who’d lost everything, coming back to her hometown where she was going to have to start over again.  Matt Girard, who was always named Matt (but not Girard) was the richest boy in town – and the one Evie had always loved.

Originally, I thought this book would be a Harlequin Blaze.  Then I decided it was more than that.  I also decided that Matt had to be in the military.  He was originally a fighter pilot.  It took a little bit of thinking for the Hostile Operations Team to be born, but that finally happened too.

HOT PURSUIT grew and changed over the course of a few years (including finally getting a title I liked, and a few years before Suzanne Brockmann used it).  But then I started to write for Harlequin, and it got shoved into a drawer (even though it was a Golden Heart Finalist in 2008).  But I couldn’t quite forget about it!

My then-agent didn’t think it would sell to New York, so I just kind of sighed sadly and left it in the drawer.  But then self-publishing exploded and I knew what I needed to do with this book.  I just couldn’t give up on Matt and Evie and the team!

I hired an editor, did the hard work of revisions, got a great cover, got some more editing, and finally put the book on NetGalley for some advance reviews.  I’ve been stunned and thrilled with the reaction readers have been having to this story!  Some books should stay buried, probably, but I’m glad this one didn’t.  I’m glad I didn’t give up on it.

I hope you enjoy Matt and Evie!  I look forward to hearing from you, and to writing more stories set in this world.  Next up is a novella, HOT MESS, which features Sam “Knight Rider” McKnight, a new recruit to HOT, and his best friend’s little sister, Georgeanne Hayes (who isn’t so little anymore!).  After that, Kev “Big Mac” MacDonald gets his turn.  I can’t wait to share all these stories with you!

 Hot Pursuit on Kindle.

Best Wishes,

Lynn
