Movies & Books – The Connection

Nowadays so many books are being made into movies, they range from the Harry Potter books to Twilight to Hunger Games and to Nicholas Sparks’s books.

As an author this would be the ultimate dream. To see your book released worldwide as a movie. Of course then getting nominated for all the awards possible for said movie would be the icing on the cake.  But I’m a realist and the chances of my books making it into a movie would be slim but I’m ever hopeful.

My latest release “Bound by Her Ring” has been compared to the movie “The Vow” when I’ve spoken to various people about it. I will say that I’ve never seen “The Vow”. I started my book back in 2002 – way before that movie hit the screens. It’s funny how similar the stories are.

If Bound By Her Ring got made into a movie I’d have a hard time thinking about who I would cast in the role of Luciano, he is an Australian/Italian, his arrogant, his sexy and dreamy but he is also caring and has a soft side that only Jasmine brings out in him. So based on the well known actors today, I’d go for Chris Hemsworth, but he’d have to dye his hair dark. For the female character I’d have to say I’d want Isobel Lucas. She’s the right combination of vulnerable but feisty. And yes I chose an Australian cast because I’m an Aussie. J

It’s fun to dream about what may happen. Share with me what you think and I will be giving away one eCopy of Bound By Her Ring!

    2. I'd love to find a couple of unknowns to star in the movie - that would be cool we could all have great success!

  2. I always have a hard time picking out actors and actresses to play main characters - probably because I can never seem the characters as anyone else :)

  3. Now that's a really fun kind of challenge, to imagine your book as a movie! And if it invokes the same feelings as The Vow, then I know it will be a big hit~

    1. It is kind of fun. Although what would be really cool would be to discover unknown actors and then everyone wins!

  5. Hello everyone! Thanks for commenting! It was really hard to imagine who would play my characters mainly because I'm so in love with my cover that the people on the front ARE Luciano and Jasmine!!

I've got a friend who is starting a band, they are awesome. I've already told her she is writing the songs for my movies and we were going to win Oscars. Her first best original song and mine for best original screenplay. LOL

    1. Hi there PK, I like to think it is romantic, although Luciano put Jasmine through the ringer so I'm guessing some readers might be ready to have a go at him, but he pulls through at the end!

  12. I'm always terrible about thinking who would play such-and-such character in a movie, but I do often think about what would happen if one of my books would be turned into a movie. It's fun to pretend.

    Congrats on your book, Nicole!

    1. Hi Cherie,

I'm with you, I don't use collage boards or look through images to 'see' my characters, when it comes to cover art I sometimes feel like saying, I've know idea - you come up with it. LOL

    2. Oh, Cherie! It is such fun to pretend which star would play in your book!

      All the best!

  14. I'm surprised it took a big name like Orson Scott Card so long to have his book turned into a movie. He's been pursuing that dream for decades. I think he was pretty miffed Stephanie Meyer trumped him so easily both in book sales and in a race to the box office, because he's spoken about those feelings on his blogs.

    1. Hi Michael,

Yes, it does take long for a writer's name to end up on screen.

  17. I'm one of those who can never pick out actors to star in a film version of my book, but it would be an awesome feeling knowing people were going to see "my" movie! (As long as they buy the book afterwards, lol.) :)
