Emmie Dark with a Giveaway!

I invited Australian author Emmie Dark today! And she came with a giveaway. Over to Emmie .....

Reflections of a newbie author

Hello Riya and Romance Reader Fans, it’s lovely to be here – thank you for inviting me!

I’m absolutely thrilled to be here to talk to you about my debut release, a Harlequin SuperRomance called Cassie’s Grand Plan.

I love reading SuperRomance – it’s my favourite category line by far. I love the true-to-life stories and real-world problems that the characters have to overcome and I’m thrilled that they wanted me to join them as an author.

Because SuperRomance allows its authors to write about real-life stuff, I was able to set Cassie and Ronan’s story in some of my favourite places in the world. I was also able to draw on my own experience as a “frequent flyer” – travelling for work all over the country (and world) and having to make the best of life on the road.

Most of Cassie’s story happens in Melbourne, a city I’m proud to call my home town. They also visit Perth and Sydney – both lovely cities that I’m pleased to be able to say I’ve visited many times and had wonderful experiences every time. Of course I probably don’t need to tell you much about Sydney – that harbour and bridge are pretty iconic all around the world! Perth is probably less well-known, but just as beautiful. Especially Fremantle, a sea-side suburb, where Cassie and Ronan take a walk along the ocean – and where their relationship begins to get a little less “strictly business”!

I was also deliberate in my choice of San Francisco as Ronan’s home town. San Francisco is one of my favourite places in all the world. If I didn’t live in Melbourne, San Francisco would be my next choice. A beautiful city with lovely people, fantastic restaurants and bars, and a rich tradition of supporting arts and culture.

I’m lucky enough to be heading off to San Francisco for a visit shortly. I can’t wait to get back to some of my favourite places for eating, drinking, shopping and just plain soaking up the city! Because I travel there regularly, I also have some friends and familiar people I’m looking forward to catching up with again. I hope the city is ready for me! J

What’s your favourite city in the world? Your home town or somewhere you’ve visited? Tell me about it for a chance to win a copy of Cassie’s Grand Plan.

BACK BLURB
Four steps to a brand-new life

Cassie Hartman knows what she needs to do to get her life under control. First, she’ll get herself promoted. Then she’ll update her appearance. Steps three and four—marriage and family—well, those will have to wait.

Then Ronan McGuire shows up. The too-sexy, too-polished business consultant has the power to derail Cassie’s plans before she’s even really started. If he doesn’t approve her promotion, she’ll be back to square one—and that’s not an option. Cassie needs to keep her focus on that first step, no matter how much Ronan tempts her to skip ahead to the third and fourth ones….

  1. The novel I'm working on starts in London (where I was born) and the mcs move to Leek (my grandparents childhood home). I think I chose these places because writing about them takes me home to England while I'm writing.

  2. Oh, this is an easy one for me! Buenos Aires, Argentina. The very first time I stepped off the plane I felt like I was returning home. Eventually, it did become my home for a few years! I love the place so much I've written two books based in Argentina. Can't help myself...

  4. My Favourite of ALL time is New Orleans. Specifically the French Quarter. Cafe au lait and beignets, crawfish etouffe, gumbo. The scenery and the accents. AHH just LOVE the Big Easy.
My 2nd favourite is San Fransisco. Ahh Ghiradelli Chocolates - and Muir Woods & Marin county.

  5. Hi Emmie, Hi Riya,

My copy has just arrived and I can't wait to read it. I'm also looking for a typically Indian location so that I can enter your photo competition......

  6. Its great to meet you Emmie and best wishes to you and Cassie's Grand Plan! My favorite place is right here where I live. I would like to visit New York City sometime.

  7. I want to read this just so I can travel around Australia vicariously through your characters. I've always wanted to go to Perth!

  8. Salzburg!
I never fail to come up with some fantastic plot twister when I visit this city.
A current WIP revolves around the recent renovations to a historical building and what was eventually discovered in the process. Ah...the plot thickens.

  9. Hi everyone -- I'm commenting today from San Francisco!!

Some fantastic cities mentioned already. How could I have forgotten New Orleans -- I love it there! And I love London, Edinburgh and New York too. I haven't made it to Buenos Aires -- that is definitely on my list though.

  10. Cassie sounds like she has all her ducks in a row, until Ronan. Haven't gone very far from Jamaica, so there's nowhere to me like Jamaica! I'd love to see the Pyramids though.

  11. Read my comment and had to chuckle. I know the Pyramids aren't in a city. :)

  13. Hi Emmie and RR!

I love the place I live in- it's quiet and slow paced and the life is very slow. But I have been to Sydney, where it is very fast. Auckland- which is also fast. I'm planning on a visit to States now so would probably visit some major cities there. But to live? RIght here, where I am!

Congrats Emmie on the release of Cassie's Grand Plan which is a super story with a hot, gorgeous hero and a strong heroine. I loved your writing and your story!

  14. LOL I can't choose. I live in Auckland, which I adore, but I'm also a keen traveler. Hubby and I lived in London for several years. We like San Francisco, Melbourne and Sydney. Edinburgh. Just to name a few.

Your book sounds like one I'd enjoy. I'll look for it.

  15. Oh, you're not going to make me choose just one! I love London - and Montreal (sorry, I had to sneak that in there!).

  16. Congrats on your romance novel, Emmie. I've never traveled outside the U.S., so I enjoy reading about other places in books. My favorite city? Hmm, that's a hard one. I love jumping waves in the warm, soothing water of Waikiki. I'm not too crazy about the crowds, but the memories I have of jumping waves at Waikiki are priceless!

  17. I'd love to go all the places the character in my historical romance does - she sets out from Barcelona and sails all along the Mediterranean, from Italy to Malta, to Greece, to Istanbul. I'm so jealous of her!

  18. Hope you have a brilliant time in San Francisco!! It's one of my wish I could got there places! San Francisco and New York!! Yay!!!

    Take care

  20. The top of my "to visit" list is New York. I love the whole vibe and connection the city has. I hope to be able to go one day.

  21. I haven't traveled nearly as much as I'd like, though I did love my visit to London.

  22. The premise is fabulous and that's not just because I can relate to the story a lot!

For me: Ipanema beach in Rio de Janeiro, best city ever. Home, sweet home. : )
